YOURSAY | ‘Mahathir, after you played Anwar out so many rounds, what do you expect?’
Quigonbond: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, can you just get over whatever is the chip on your shoulders and say that one thing that you haven't been able to say all these while - that you support PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim as PM, and that you will get your supporters, the remnants of Bersatu to support Anwar as the next PM if Pakatan Harapan wrests back power.
I don't care if MPs from PKR, DAP or Amanah support Anwar. Just you, and your Bersatu (or ex-Bersatu) comrades, and your other supporters like Warisan. That's all that matters. It's really that simple.
Based on all previous news reports, it is you who have a problem with Anwar, saying he is too liberal and cannot get support from Malays, etc. It's a joke for you to turn things around to say maybe Anwar has a problem with you.
Existential Turd: I have no problem with Mahathir either. But I certainly have a problem with him being PM again.
Also, what has Anwar done to Mahathir to give Mahathir any reason to believe Anwar has a problem with him? Or is it an implicit admission of guilt for what he did to, and said about, Anwar?
Yukino: Anwar foiled Harapan’s plan to take Putrajaya not once but many times. He is a serial loser.
Harapan won five states when he was in jail, but lost Perak as soon as he was out of jail. It won Putrajaya when he was in jail, but lost it months after he is out of jail.
Harapan has no hope to recapture Putrajaya as long as Anwar is still around.
And Justice For All: @Yukino, Anwar was out there campaigning when Pakatan Rakyat (not Harapan) won five states in 2008. In fact, he was instrumental in achieving that feat.
Before this, no one believed that the opposition had not a snowball's chance in hell of winning. This inspired the country to believe it can topple BN, and it finally happened in 2018 - 10 years later.
As far as Perak is concerned, it was defections that caused the change in government, not Anwar. And 12 years later, in 2020, it was again defections - due to Mahathir's doing - which led to the collapse of the government at the federal level - through his pandering and encouragement of the defectors.
Malaysia put too much faith in Mahathir. That’s our mistake. And now, again Mahathir? No, I would rather remain in opposition.
Anwar is right in not supporting Mahathir, so long as Mahathir does not put the people, and not his needs and wants, ahead of himself.
Behsaikong: Mahathir, if you don’t have a problem with Anwar, why did you not hand the reins of government to him as promised in GE14; why must you insist on some irrelevant international gathering before doing so?
And how many times must you be PM?
Undecided: Who could blame Anwar if he is not ready to work with Mahathir? Mahathir seems to have a deep hatred for Anwar going by how he treats and criticises him.
DAP has to be careful about supporting Mahathir as prime minister for the third time as this will turn away many of its supporters.
Raja Chulan: I think, Mahathir is still relevant, and maybe even necessary, to lead the Harapan charge against PN.
Why dispense Mahathir when at this time Harapan may need all available resources and means to fight PN and regain back the government?
Perhaps, this time around, all important matters such as implementing the reform agenda as stated in the Harapan election manifesto, and the power transition matter, etc, should be written down and signed off by Mahathir at the very start so that there will not be two ways about those things.
In this respect, I think, Mahathir should be allowed to be the PM until after the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit, but in any event not later than May 2021.
Mahathir must also immediately include Anwar in the cabinet as the DPM. Thereafter, Anwar shall be the PM and Mahathir be made the senior minister for education in Anwar's cabinet.
Post-GE15, if Harapan wins, Anwar shall continue as the PM but must hand over power to a younger leader not later than three years into government. With this, the selected new leader will have sufficient time to prepare Harapan and lead it into GE16 and thereafter.
I think the above will make a lot of sense to us, the voters who supported Harapan.
Antibend: Never, never make the mistake of making Mahathir the PM for the third time. He screwed the country the first time, the second time, and now wants to screw us again.
BehtahanBN: Yes, if Mahathir has no problem with Anwar, then just declare his support for him to be PM. What so difficult?
The fact you don't say it means you are not sincere and not honest about that statement. How many times do you think rakyat will be fooled by you?
Mortality: Mahathir should ride into the sunset, fade away instead of trying to lead our nation again.
His 22 years of terror and his 22 months of hypocrisy had done much damage to our nation. Whether we, as a nation, can pick ourselves up and heal those wounds remain to be seen.
No, much as I detest the backdoor PM and his toilet bowl government, if a change of government means Mahathir is back as PM, I will rather bite the bullet and wait for GE15. Perhaps, by then, nature would have taken its own course.
Salvage Malaysia: Mahathir, after you played Anwar out so many rounds, what do you expect?
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin played you out just one round, how do you feel? Do you feel full of forgiveness, love and admiration for him?
What goes around comes around. - Mkini
