Malaysiakini
COVID-19 | There are 15 new cases of Covid-19 infections detected as of noon today with one new cluster emerging.
According to the Health Ministry, 11 of the new cases were the result of local transmissions. This involved 10 locals, of which nine were from the new "Tawar cluster" in Kedah.
One case was detected after a Malaysian was screened for Covid-19 when seeking medical treatment in Kuala Lumpur.
The only local infection involving a foreigner involved a person who was screened before attempting to leave the country.
There were four import cases of Covid-19, with three cases involving Malaysians returning from Indonesia and the remaining case involving a Malaysian returning from Yemen.
Currently, 183 people are being treated for Covid-19 in Malaysia, of which two require intensive care. No patients require ventilator support.
Tawar cluster
The index case for the "Tawar cluster" is believed to be patient 9,113 who is a Malaysian who attended the funeral of a family member on July 31 and Aug 1.
The patient developed symptoms on Aug 8 and sought medical help. He was tested positive on Aug 11.
According to the Health Ministry, all the other cases in this cluster were related to patient 9,113. There were 30 people at the funeral he attended.
So far, 86 tests have been conducted, of which 56 results are still pending.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry today dismissed allegations shared online, accusing a student in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur of having Covid-19.
The student concerned has been tested twice for the virus while 54 close contacts were also tested. All tests came back negative.
