Covid-19 (Oct 28): 801 new cases, active cases breach 10,000 mark

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 801 new Covid-19 cases today while the number of active cases breached the 10,000 mark.

Leading indicators in brief:

  • Active cases = 10,123 ↑ (23rd straight day, a new record set)
  • Patients in intensive care = 94 ↑ (5 more than yesterday)

  • Intubated patients = 25 ↓ (7 less than yesterday)
  • Deaths = 8

Seven deaths were reported in Sabah and one in Selangor.

The national Covid-19 death toll stood at 246, of which Sabah accounted for 46.3 percent.

Four of the deaths in Sabah were reported at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, all involving citizens.

Another citizen passed away at the Tawau Hospital while two foreigners passed away at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

Four victims had sequential Covid-19 case numbers, indicating that they passed away very soon before or after their test results were returned.

The cumulative Covid-19 death toll for Sabah has hit 114, of which 101 were reported this month alone.

Of the 801 new cases, only two did not involve local transmissions.

Sabah continued to report the highest number of new cases followed by Selangor and Labuan.

A breakdown of the new cases are as follows:

Sabah (546 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 78 cases

- Gaya cluster (new) - 11 cases

- Other types of screening - 186 cases

- Close contact screening - 271 cases

Selangor (88 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 35 cases

- Close contact screening - 33 cases

- Other types of screening - 22 cases

Labuan (29 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 23 cases

- Close contact screening - 2 cases

- Other types of screening - 4 cases

Kedah (28 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 28 cases

Sarawak (27 new cases)

- Greenhill cluster - 21 cases

- Close contact screening - 6 cases

Negeri Sembilan (24 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 10 cases

- Close contact screening - 12 cases

- Other types of screening - 2 cases

Penang (19 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 13 cases

- Close contact screening - 4 cases

- Screening due to symptoms - 2 cases

Kuala Lumpur (13 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 4 cases

- Idaman cluster - 2 cases

- Close contact screening - 5 cases

- Other types of screening - 2 cases

Terengganu (11 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 11 cases

Johor (8 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 3 cases

- Bayu cluster - 4 new cases

- Other types of screening - 1 case

Perak (6 new cases)

- Existing clusters - 5 cases

- Close contact screening - 1 case

Four new clusters were reported today of which the Greenhill cluster was the largest. This cluster involved the Kuching and Miri districts in Sarawak.

The index case reported symptoms on Oct 25. So far, 25 cases have been attributed to this cluster.

The Seri Gaya cluster involved the Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran districts in Sabah. The index case reported symptoms on Oct 27 and 17 cases have been attributed to this cluster so far.

The Idaman cluster involved the Petaling and Gombak districts in Selangor as well as the Titiwangsa and Cheras districts in Kuala Lumpur.

The index case reported symptoms on Oct 27 and 11 cases have been attributed to this cluster so far.

The Bayu cluster involved the Johor Baru and Muar districts in Johor. The index case reported symptoms on Oct 23. So far, 8 cases have been attributed to this cluster. - Mkini
