Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun has been urged to ensure that new members for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) are sworn in when the Lower House convenes next Monday.
PAC chief Wong Kah Woh (photo, above) said the committee has been unable to carry out its duties as new members have not been appointed.
After the change of government in March, five PAC members became ministers or deputy ministers.
Wong was appointed as the new chairperson in August, together with Bersatu's Azizah Mohd Dun as deputy chairperson.
However, vacancies for the other PAC members have yet to be filled, and the committee has not met since March.
"The PAC needs to make up for the lost time," Wong said in a statement today.
He said the current PAC members have already lined up a calendar for briefings and other matters starting next Tuesday, with plans to table one report next week and another one the week after.
He said he had written to Azhar last week in making his case to get new PAC members appointed.
However, a draft of the order paper for Monday does not have the appointment of PAC members on the list. - Mkini
