KUALA LUMPUR: Former Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) executive director Mahadi Che Ngah has been appointed the city’s new mayor.

Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa, who announced Mahadi’s appointment today, said it received the approval of the prime minister and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The new mayor replaces former Subang Jaya Municipal Council president Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan, who took over the post on Oct 2, 2018, from Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.

It was previously reported that Nor Hisham’s contract ends on Oct 2.

Annuar said Mahadi started his career in DBKL as a town and country planning officer in April 1983, before moving up the ranks to become executive director (planning). He retired in September last year.

“Thirty-six years of service in DBKL gives him an advantage in terms of knowledge, skill and experience in city management and Kuala Lumpur planning policies,” he said at a press conference today.

He also thanked Nor Hisham for his service for the past two years, saying the former mayor had initiated many developments and managed DBKL well.

“He is a disciplined and dedicated officer,” he said. - FMT
