Najib: Umno has no problem striking deal with Anwar, but DAP stays out of picture

KUALA LUMPUR: There should be no issue for Umno to enter into a conditional cooperation with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim – without the participation of DAP, said Pekan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The former prime minister said this was the second of two proposals raised by him during an emergency meeting chaired by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today.

Najib said if the party could enter into a cooperation with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, why couldn't it do so with Anwar?

"However, my proposal for the cooperation with Anwar came with several conditions – (including) that it should not involve DAP. This was reiterated many times during the meeting.

"If we can enter into a cooperation with Muhyiddin and Azmin – although at the time, PPBM (Bersatu) was our enemy, since it took several Umno MPs – then why can't we discuss a conditional cooperation with Anwar until GE15?

"Other conditions include for Umno to be given roles to determine the financial and economic direction (of the country) which is currently being monopolised by Bersatu.

"And there is no representative from Umno, Pas or other parties," said Najib in a posting on his Facebook page.

Najib wrote the post as a response to reports published by several portals suggesting that he had asked BN to support Anwar during an emergency meeting today, which the former described as "not accurate".

He clarified that the matter was raised in the event that the PN leadership rejects his first proposal – which was for the present administration to fix a date for GE15 once the Covid-19 situation in the country is under control. - NST
