1MDB TRIAL | Due to the ongoing conditional movement control order (MCO), Najib Abdul Razak’s RM2.28 1MDB corruption trial today has been vacated.
This was confirmed to Malaysiakini by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib when contacted this morning.
“Yes,” the DPP said when asked on whether the initially scheduled trial this week has been vacated due to the conditional MCO in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
“The next date is Nov 9 to 12 for continued hearing,” he said in regard to the former prime minister’s RM2.28 billion graft trial before the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
When contacted by Malaysiakini, Najib’s defence counsel Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee also confirmed that today’s trial has been vacated due to the ongoing conditional MCO.
Today was initially scheduled for the resumption of Najib’s corruption trial, following the previous postponement on Oct 5 due to the accused undergoing voluntary Covid-19 quarantine.
However, on Oct 13, it was reported that with the onset of the conditional MCO, court hearings in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya would be postponed from Oct 14 to Oct 27.
A day earlier on Oct 12, it was reported that the conditional MCO would be imposed in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, taking effect on Oct 14.
