KUALA LUMPUR: The government is considering imposing a limit on the maximum number of guest attending events and gatherings for the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) period.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said such a move will enable the government to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission within the community.

"This will also apply to major conferences, wedding 'kenduri' as well as public gatherings.

"Having that said, the government will seek advice from the Health Ministry before coming to a decision over the matter, which would include the introduction of additional standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said during a special televised address today.

The government, he said, would not hesitate to take action against those who violate the RMCO.

"Maaflah jika Abah ini mula menggunakan rotan!," he said.

Muhyiddin also reiterated his call for the public to continue to adhere to the SOP and guidelines in place to break the transmission chain of the virus.

He said frontliners from enforcement agencies would be redeployed in public places to ensure public compliance of the SOP.

"Compounds and other form of punishment await against those who are found flouting the law, irrespective of your rank or degree," he said. - NST
