IPOH: Pulling out from Perikatan Nasional will not be good for Umno, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (pic).
Without elaborating, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president said it would not give any advantage to their members or supporters.
“I think Umno will not pull its support, ” the Perak Mentri Besar told reporters after attending the state-level Innovation Day at the state secretariat building here Thursday (Oct 15).
Umno is reportedly mulling withdrawing its support for the Perikatan coalition.
Faizal said Bersatu was currently waiting for its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to finish his quarantine before holding a meeting.
“If he calls us for a meeting, we will voice out our opinions on the issue.
“I believe that I share the same views with other members, which is to focus on restoring our economy and continue our battle against Covid-19, ” he said.
“I also know that there are some who do not share my views, but I believe the people have spoken. They (the people) want us to stay united, ” he added.
Separately, he said he did not consult with anyone before appointing Umno’s Pengkalan Hulu assemblyman Datuk Aznel Ibrahim as his political secretary on Monday (Oct 12).
“I believe he will be able to serve the best for Perikatan’s component parties.
“If PAS and Bersatu can accept Aznel’s appointment, Umno would be happier, too, ” he said.
“The relationship between parties in the state Perikatan coalition is close, and we are working hard for the people, ” he added. - Star
