DAP has obtained permission from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to postpone its national congress and party election by up to six months, said DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke.
He said the congress was initially slated for Dec 20 in Shah Alam, but will now be postponed to a date that will be determined later. The date will be no later than June 30, 2021.
“However, the nomination process for the central executive committee election (CEC) has already been completed, and the candidate list has been finalised,” he said in the statement today.
The list shows a total of 86 candidates vying for 30 posts in the CEC.
DAP was originally required to hold its party congress no later than the end of this year, but the party had appealed to the ROS for a six-month postponement in light of the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases following the Sabah state election in September.
Loke had previously said the party congress would involve nearly 4,000 delegates from all over the country, who would have to be physically present for the voting process.
