Every party in PN equally important, says Wan Fayhsal

Each party in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government is equally important and needs each other to stay in power, reminded Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

Commenting on Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin's statement that the party's mission is to regain power at the federal level through cooperation with PAS, Fayhsal (above) instead called for Umno to continue working together with PN.

"Umno and BN are part of the government. PN wouldn't be here without the support from Umno.

"We need to unite among parties in the government bloc," he told the media in a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier, Khaled (photostressed in a statement that Umno is the country's largest and oldest Malay political party and has been dominant since independence.

He reiterated that Umno and PAS are sufficient to ensure Malay dominance and political stability.

However, Fayhsal highlighted that the political demography has changed, with no sole party leading the country.

"All parties need to reflect and cooperate (with one another). If we clash, we will not be able to form the government," he said.

Asked to comment on speculations that Umno did not receive fair treatment from Bersatu, Fayhsal dismissed it and said even relationships among party presidents are on good terms.

"It's a coalition. Everyone is equally important. Even each party doesn't have enough numbers (to form the government)," he said.

Earlier, Fayhsal visited the food-delivery riders to listen to their problems at KL Gateway Mall and was accompanied by Penghantar, an NGO that fights for the welfare of the riders.

He suggested that the labour law should be amended to protect the gig economy workers.

"The current law does not protect the gig economy workers. Many of them are youth who fall under the B40 category.

"When there is no clear law to protect them, companies that monopolise the gig industry would set a standard on a whim.

"Exploitation will happen. So I appeal to these companies to have a sense of empathy," Fayhsal added. - Mkini
