PARLIAMENT | The MACC has received 3,919 reports linked to alleged abuse of power and corruption by public officers on duty during the movement control order (MCO) period from March to September.
From the figure, the highest number of reports was received in July with 962 cases, while May recorded the lowest number with 275 cases.
There were 510 reports lodged in March, 279 in April, 758 in June, 542 in August, and 593 in September.
These numbers were in a written answer by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Takiyuddin Hassan to Teresa Kok (Harapan-Seputeh). However, the answer did not provide details on the reports lodged with the MACC.
In August, the MACC detained nine Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) personnel and one trader as part of investigations into alleged bribe-taking in exchange for protecting illegal business premises in Sungai Buloh.
At the time, a burger stall chain owner who goes by "Asri Janggut" on Facebook recorded a video that went viral which showed him driving around Sungai Buloh pointing out the authorities' alleged inaction against "gambling dens".
Asri said he was upset at MBSA after they shut one of his stalls which he claimed was located on an unobstructed pavement in Sungai Buloh.
In the earlier stages of the MCO, there were also news reports of suspects arrested by the MACC for alleged attempts to bribe authorities on duty. - Mkini
