Perak Umno chief Saarani Mohamad has urged all quarters to halt speculations on the political situation in the state.
The speculations came about after the state chapters of Umno, PKR, DAP and Amanah made public their ongoing discussions to join forces to form a new state government in Perak.
"Perak Umno views seriously the myriad of speculations and rumours following statements which were issued outside of the party regarding the political scenario in Perak.
"Therefore, all quarters should remain calm and refrain from speculating based on statements issued without referring to the party's official stand," Saarani said in a statement today.
The Kota Tampan assemblyperson noted that all official statements with regard to the formation of the state government would only be issued by the office of the state Umno liaison chairperson.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi told reporters in Ipoh yesterday that the party was open to negotiations with all parties.
PKR and Amanah are adamant that the alliance must be done en bloc with their Pakatan Harapan partner DAP.
Perak DAP has given the nod to the alliance "in the best interest of the people".
The Perak crisis was triggered after Menteri Besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu failed a confidence vote mooted by Umno during the state assembly sitting last Friday.
Meanwhile, Member of Dewan Negara Perak (the Advisory Council to the State Ruler), Annuar Zaini, has dismissed claims that he met with DAP assemblyperson Howard Lee to discuss the formation of the new state government.
A picture of him and Lee is circulating on social media.
In a Facebook posting, Annuar explained that while the picture is genuine, it was taken during a "food tasting" session at a restaurant in Ipoh last October.
He said the restaurant is owned by Lee and he was invited there by Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah's cousin, Raja Jalil Raja Zaid. - Mkini
