Police inspector remanded over khalwat entrapment case

MACC says the police inspector is believed to have promised the girl RM3,000 to set up a trap for another officer.

ALOR SETAR: A police inspector based in Penang has been remanded for four days over investigations into a case involving an alleged sexual liasion between another officer and a 16-year-old girl.

Kedah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) director Shaharom Nizam Abd Manap said the inspector was being investigated for abusing his office for personal gain.

He said the act was suspected to have been committed by the 33-year-old man to tarnish the reputation of another police officer, also with the rank of inspector, with charges of close proximity.

“The suspect, along with another police officer and a civilian, are believed to be involved in this case by conspiring with a 16-year-old girl to entrap the officer.

“The girl was asked by the suspect to help him lure the officer to a hotel room in George Town, Penang. When they were together in the room, the suspect informed the religious office to conduct a raid,” he said in a statement today.

Shaharom Nizam said the suspect was believed to have promised the girl RM3,000 and that he would not take action against the girl, who had previously been detained in connection with ecstasy pills.

He said the suspect was arrested at the MACC office on Tuesday evening and the case was being investigated under Section 16 (b) (A) of the MACC Act 2009.

Meanwhile, the alleged accomplices – an inspector and the civilian, aged 30 and 32 years – who had also been detained by the MACC, were released on bail. They were detained separately yesterday and today. - FMT
