The Taman Chai Leng Residents Association today lodged a police report against Penang Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy over his alleged defamatory statement on management rights of a hall under their purview.
The association chairperson, Lim Jit Leong, said Ramasamy’s (above) statement during a press conference on Saturday had undermined the association's credibility and could spark misunderstandings and tension between residents and the association.
“We would like to request the police to investigate Ramasamy who made baseless allegations against the association,” Lim told reporters after making a police report at the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters, in Bukit Mertajam, today.
He said the allegations included that the Taman Chai Leng Multipurpose Hall's rental was "high" and that the association's financial report was not transparent.
He added that the association had evidence to prove the allegations were untrue.
"Therefore, we demand that Ramasamy clean up our now tarnished reputation and request that he review the land lease period of the multipurpose hall building under the management of the Taman Chai Leng Residents Association for another 30 years," he said.
Lim said they regretted that all efforts to meet Ramasamy, who is also the Perai state assemblyperson, since August had not been possible until now.
On Dec 5, Ramasamy said it was agreed not to extend the land lease period and, additionally, the management rights of the multipurpose hall would be given to the Taman Chai Leng Village Community Management Council, Perai starting next year.
