Selangor offers free tests for those living near Top Glove's Meru plants

COVID-19 | The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) is rolling out targeted community testing for those living in housing estates near the Top Glove factories in Meru, Klang.

The cluster named Teratai after the road where Top Glove's dormitories and plants are located has 4,278 cases, and is the largest cluster since the outbreak started in Malaysia.

Residents of Taman Meru 3, Taman Seri Meru, Taman Bayu and Taman Desa Permai can undergo Covid-19 screening at the Taman Meru 3 Community Hall tomorrow from 9am to 2pm.

The screening will be conducted with cooperation with the Selcare clinics, Klang District Health Office and medical NGO, Imam Response and Relief Team.

Residents are urged to first register themselves at the Selangkah's screening website before heading the community hall.

Targeted screenings by Selangor

The Health Ministry currently only provides free Covid-19 testing for those who have had contact with an infected person or those undergoing a medical procedure at a public hospital.

This is not the first time the Selangor government has provided targeted community screenings.

Earlier in the outbreak, it provided free screening to senior citizens in Selangor.

In October, eight of its Selcare clinics offered free tests to those who travelled to Sabah from September 20 to 26.

This is because the Health Ministry had only imposed mandatory testing to Sabah returnees starting Sept 27.

Selcare clinics are primary healthcare clinics run by Selgate Corporation, a fully-owned Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS) company.

Selangor the new epicentre of Covid-19 outbreak

The STFC, headed by former Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad, had earlier urged the Health Ministry to share granular data on infections within Selangor with the state, so it could assist in contact tracing.

The ministry ceased sharing this data since October, Dzulkefly told Malaysiakini

However, the ministry said it cannot share granular data due to privacy concerns and to avoid public confusion.

The STFC and the ministry have since held meetings to discuss cooperation, as Selangor becomes the new epicentre of the outbreak.

Yesterday, Selangor recorded 402 new cases, the highest among all states.  - Mkini
