PETALING JAYA: With the movement control order and dine-in limited to just two to a table, Valentine’s Day was expected to be a miserable one this year.
But it looks like two to a table was what all the diners wanted. It has been “full house” for several high-end restaurants in the Klang Valley tonight as couples celebrated Valentine’s Day amid strict SOPs.
On Tuesday, the government announced it would allow dining-in at food and beverage outlets with two customers per table with tables to be spaced out at 1m each.
Dine-in was previously banned since the second movement control order (MCO 2.0) started on Jan 11, and Tuesday’s ruling has allowed couples who might have been previously planning a date night at home a chance to wine and dine in public.
“It is a full house at all our restaurants. In fact, it’s been fully booked for the past two days,” said a spokesperson for Vantador, a popular steakhouse in Desa Sri Hartamas.
“The dining ends at 10pm. But we’re still grateful that dine-in is allowed,” she said.
Restaurants and other food outlets are only allowed to operate from 6am to 10pm during the MCO, with a worker present to ensure that physical distancing and other SOPs are complied with at all times.
Vantador has two sister restaurants at Desa Sri Hartamas and Desa ParkCity.
Meanwhile in the city centre, it was a similar story at the Horizon Grill – a restaurant on the 58th floor of the Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur hotel.
“We’ve been fully booked today,” said Azmi Zainal, a staff of the hotel’s guest service centre.
“We have 50 tables right now during the MCO, and they have all been reserved since around 5pm.”
Tamarind Springs, an Asian fusion restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, also reported brisk sales tonight.
“It’s actually better than expected,” said a representative.
