Citing complacency, Kelantan MB vows to lay down the law

The Kelantan government has resolved to ensure stricter enforcement of Covid-19 protocols as the state had the highest infectivity rate as of yesterday.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob (above) said his government believed that the people had become complacent and were not consistently observing the rules.

"We will enhance enforcement efforts because when we went back to the recovery movement control order (MCO), it made the public complacent.

"They must obey the rules or else we will go back to the (full) MCO. This will become a problem," he told reporters in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, after the meeting of the state's National Security Council chapter.

As of yesterday, Kelantan had a R-naught figure of 1.19 - the highest in the country, followed by Malacca and Penang.

State executive councillor for local government, housing and health Dr Izani Husin told reporters that the situation was "worrying".

"If (daily) cases are not under control, the NSC and Health Ministry will recommend that we impose (full) MCO again.

"We will be forced to comply. Everyone will be affected, more so as we approach Ramadan.

"I urged Kelantanese to follow the rules to stem the spread of Covid-19," he said. - Mkini
