Couple crossed state lines, in for expensive honeymoon

A couple is in for an unforgettable honeymoon after being accused of breaching the ban on interstate travel.

According to Wangsa Maju district police chief Ashari Abu Samah, the couple made up a fraudulent excuse to cross state lines.

"The police have conducted a thorough investigation because there are suspicions based on the statements recorded from the couple on March 20.

"The couple had booked a hotel (in Johor) online in December 2020 to celebrate their anniversary on March 17," said Ashari.

Should the couple be found guilty, they will be fined up to RM10,000 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

Ashari urged the public not to abuse the leeway given by the authorities for travel when it comes to work or emergencies.

"In the effort to stem the spread of Covid-19, all individuals have to play their roles and work together in obeying the movement control orders by the government," he said.

According to Sinar Harian, the couple sought permission to travel from the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters.

However, after the photograph of their honeymoon surfaced online, there were calls for the duo to be investigated.

Currently, the MCO rules allow for couples living apart to visit each other, with permission from the police.

However, in this case, the couple appeared to have travelled together from Kuala Lumpur to a holiday destination in Johor. - Mkini
