Kelantan school closed after 11 teachers, student contract Covid-19

 

A school in Kota Bharu, Kelantan was closed today after 11 teachers and a student tested positive for Covid-19.

The outbreak at SK Seri Ketereh was believed to have been triggered by a teacher who attended a wedding reception before infecting others.

Following that, 24 other teachers who were identified as close contacts were ordered to undergo quarantine, a source told Malaysiakini.

"The Covid-19 cases at the school were detected after the teacher underwent a swab test. Due to the outbreak, the state education department and the district health office ordered the school to be closed," said the source.

The source added that home-based teaching and learning for tomorrow will continue as usual before the mid-semester break beginning this Friday until April 3.

State Health Department director Dr Zaini Hussin confirmed the cases, adding that it was possible they came from the wedding reception.

The Health Ministry today reported 1,268 new cases nationwide, with Kelantan having 49 new cases.

The east coast state has recorded 5,779 cases cumulatively with 23 deaths reported. - Mkini
