A man is expected to be slapped with two charges in court for assaulting a former Air Putih assemblyperson.
Terengganu police chief Roslee Chik said the suspect, who is supposedly a friend of the victim Wan Ahmad Nizam Wan Abdul Hamid, will be charged under Section 326 for voluntarily causing hurt and 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and causing damage.
The investigation on the case was completed last week.
"The deputy public prosecutor just returned the investigation paper (IP) to the police yesterday.
"We were asked to refer the case to Putrajaya (Attorney-General's Chambers) and that the suspect be charged under Sections 326 and 427," Roslee told Malaysiakini.
The victim, he said, suffered a fracture to his lower back due to the assault.
The incident was in the spotlight after the media recently reported that the police were probing a former politician from the east coast for allegedly molesting his friend's wife last year.
Subsequently, Wan Ahmad came forward to dismiss the allegation and claimed that he never spent a night at his friend's house.
Wan Ahmad claimed that the allegation came after he was assaulted by his friend who came to visit him at his house in Kemaman to discuss the debt he owed to Wan Ahmad.
"I told him that I would lodge a police report and he threatened me not to proceed with the report or he will do something that will embarrass me, and suddenly there's a story that I molested his wife," he said.
The woman had filed a report against Wan Ahmad in Ampang.
Malaysiakini has contacted Ampang police chief Mohamad Farouk Esha.
Wan Ahmad was an Air Putih assemblyperson for one term after winning the Penang state seat in 2004. He also served as a political secretary to former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said. - Mkini
