Multiple ministers' alleged SOP breach: Cops to call Seremban wedding organiser

The police have not recorded the statements of government leaders who allegedly crossed state lines to attend a wedding reception in Seremban on March 14.

This is because the police are recording the statement of the wedding organiser first, said Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran to Malaysiakini today.

"We are in the process of recording the organiser's statement. We are in the midst of setting an appointment.

We have yet to record statements from ministers or VIPs," he said.

On March 16, Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) co-founder Mutalib Uthman filed a police report on the alleged breach of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The report named Science, Innovation and Technology Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa, Higher Education Minister Noraini Ahmad, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, and Deputy Home Minister Ismail Mohamed Said as the leaders at the wedding reception.

Aside from the four ministers and one deputy minister, Umno Padang Terap MP Mahdzir Khalid was also named.

Two days later, Mutalib was called to the Sepang district police headquarters to have his statement recorded to facilitate the police investigation into the matter.

Photos of the ministers at the wedding reception of Jelebu MP Jalaluddin Alias were uploaded to Instagram by Negeri Sembilan Umno Youth chief Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir before they were deleted.

However, netizens took screenshots of the photos and reuploaded them on Twitter.

Meanwhile, regarding the allegation that celebrity Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor's marriage solemnisation ceremony had flouted the SOPs, the Dang Wangi police have recorded the statement of the hotel management.

"We have recorded a statement from the hotel and today, the event manager is expected to come to give her statement.

"We will call other witnesses in the near future," said Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah as reported by Sinar Harian.

Previously, the police stated that preliminary investigation showed the event failed to adhere to SOPs, notably on physical distancing measures. - Mkini
