PAS postpones party polls until after GE15

PAS has postponed its party polls and annual gathering until after the next 15th general election (GE15).

Its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the decision to push back the party's 67th election, due to be called at its muktamar this year, was made in order to focus on preparations for GE15.

"PAS has decided that the muktamar will be held after GE15, doesn't matter when. For now, we don't even know when GE15 will be called but it is expected after the emergency is over.

"So we take into consideration holding our muktamar after that," Takiyuddin was quoted as saying by Astro Awani.

The last PAS polls were held in June 2019, during its 65th muktamar in Kuantan, Pahang. At the time, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, retained their positions uncontested.

It also saw Idris Ahmad, Mohamad Amar Nik Abdullah and Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar elected as PAS vice-presidents.

The Islamist party was at the time in partnership with Umno through its Muafakat Nasional pact, before joining the Perikatan Nasional government since its formation last year.  - Mkini
