The police are investigating a politician from the east coast with a "datuk" title over an alleged sexual assault against a woman.
Ampang Jaya district police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak confirmed that a 48-year-old businessperson lodged a police report on March 16.
"The case is under investigation, and we are locating a witness involved (in the case)," he said in a statement today.
Mohamad Farouk said the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging modesty, and no arrest has been made as yet.
He said the alleged incident took place when the politician and his wife visited the victim and her husband at Taman Melawati in July or August 2020.
"The suspect and his wife spend the night at the house," added Farouk.
It is learned that the victim's husband was an acquaintance of the politician's wife.
"While she (the victim) was sleeping in the first-floor living room early morning, she suddenly woke up after realising she was being kissed and molested," he said.
"When the suspect realised the victim was awake, he went downstairs to go home with his wife," he said.
Farouk said the victim was reluctant to lodge a police report as the suspect was an influential politician.
"She was afraid of lodging a police report all this while for fear of damaging her relationship with the suspect, and she wasn't sure what to do given that the suspect was an influential politician from one of the east coast states," added Farouk.
Meanwhile, Sinar Harian quoted an anonymous source as saying that the woman was initially reluctant to lodge a police report as she was concerned about her and her husband's safety as the suspect had a pistol and a hot temper.
Moreover, the source said the victim owed the suspect RM200,000 for a business transaction. - Mkini
