Political activist Tamrin Abdul Ghaffar has been egging on former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the latter's successor Muhyiddin Yassin for a debate showdown, but neither is likely to entertain the idea.
For Mahathir, the Langkawi MP does not see any likelihood that Muhyiddin will accept the challenge, according to the former prime minister's political secretary Abu Bakar Yahya.
"He (the prime minister) wouldn't even face journalists, what more Tun M," he told Malaysiakini.
Abu Bakar said this when asked if Mahathir was receptive to Tamrin's call.
Neither is Pejuang information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamudin optimistic about the proposed debate.
"This hasn't been discussed so far," Ulya said.
As for Muhyiddin, he has not responded to a letter Tamrin had sent for the debate. Tamrin sent letters to the prime minister earlier this month proposing the debate. The deadline was yesterday.
Tamrin said he wanted the debate so both men could explain what transpired following the Sheraton Move that saw the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
"We don't know who is telling the truth, so the best way is through a debate, to see who's telling the truth.
"That's the best way. Then the people can be the judge," Tamrin added.
The Harapan government collapsed after Muhyiddin joined forces with a group of PKR defectors to form the new government with the then opposition in February last year. - Mkini
