Ex-beauty queen pleads not guilty to punching cop, drug abuse

Former Miss Universe Malaysia 2015 finalist Kohinoor Damodaran Kaittiani, 29, has pleaded not guilty to charges of punching a police officer and drug abuse.

Both charges were read at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court today before magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.

According to the first charge, the accused allegedly used criminal force to intimidate a civil servant by punching police corporal Sharulafirin Sarmadan.

The crime was allegedly committed at Jalan Universiti, Petaling Jaya, at 3am yesterday.

The charge was framed under Section 353 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, according to a report by Kosmo! Online.

For the second charge, the accused allegedly used the dangerous drug tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) at the Petaling Jaya police district headquarters’ Narcotic Crimes Investigation Department at 2pm on the same day.

It was reported yesterday that a former beauty queen was arrested after allegedly running a police roadblock at the Federal Highway and punching a police officer who pursued and arrested her.

According to Petaling Jaya OCPD Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid, the woman was driving from Kuala Lumpur to Petaling Jaya on the highway with a female companion and failed to stop at the roadblock.

She was said to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, while a preliminary drug test came back positive.

She has been charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the alleged offence.

The crime is punishable with up to RM5,000 fine, up to two years’ imprisonment, or both. The convict will also be placed under supervision for two to three years.

Deputy public prosecutor Lau Chia Xin proposed a bail of RM5,000 for each charge, but defence lawyer Raj Preet Kaur urged for a reduced bail on account of the accused's restaurant business being unable to operate due to the movement control order.

The court set bail at RM2,000 for the first charge and RM1,000 for the second charge, and the case is slated for mention on Oct 6.

During proceedings, Kohinoor’s companion Quek Shen Tying, 33, also pleaded not guilty to charges of using the same drug at 2.15pm at the same time and place.

The court set her bail at RM1,500 and slated Oct 1 for case mention. - Mkini
