PETALING JAYA: M Kula Segaran has questioned Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun on why he had not responded directly to his motion seeking to censure de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan and Attorney-General Idrus Harun for allegedly misleading the house.
“I have checked my emails and phone but there is no reply to me, the MP who filed the motion,” he said in a statement.
“Instead, the press has his reply.”
Yesterday, Kula had called for Azhar to recuse himself from deciding on his motion as Idrus is his brother.
However, the Ipoh Barat MP said he was glad that Azhar had realised there was a conflict of interest in being appointed the speaker when his brother was the chief legal adviser to the government.
Kula hoped the deputy speakers would prioritise his motion as treason against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was a matter of “great importance”.
He also called on Azhar to assure that ample time would be given for him to debate his motion, other motions, and the emergency ordinances as requested by the King.
“He must extend the length of this Parliament sitting.”
Kula had submitted the motion on July 29 to censure Idrus and Takiyuddin for allegedly misleading Parliament that the emergency ordinances had been revoked.
In response to the announcement on Monday, the King had expressed “deep disappointment” as he had not consented to the revocation, adding that Takiyuddin and Idrus had failed to abide by his request for the emergency ordinances to be debated in Parliament. - FMT
