PETALING JAYA: Amanah has slammed Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the Cabinet over their response to a rare royal rebuke, saying it smacked of arrogance.
Amanah president Mohamad Sabu demanded that Muhyiddin seek the King’s forgiveness and that he resign immediately.
Mohamad was commenting on the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) statement in relation to the emergency ordinances (EOs) fiasco, which blew up when the King revealed he had not given his consent to their revocation.
On Monday, law minister Takiyuddin Hassan surprised the Dewan Rakyat when he said the EOs were revoked on July 21. This led to questions on whether the King had given his consent for the revocation.
Yesterday, the PMO said its actions in revoking the EOs were in line with the country’s laws and the Federal Constitution.
Mohamad, commonly known as Mat Sabu, said the manner the EOs were revoked remains questionable.
“Muhyiddin’s statement seems to imply that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong does not understand the real situation,” he said.
He said the Cabinet had also failed to honour the King’s call on June 11 to reconvene the Dewan Rakyat as soon as possible for the EOs and national recovery plan to be debated.
Mohamad also criticised the government for the multiple suspensions of Dewan Rakyat sittings yesterday.
All this, he said, was an act of defiance against the Palace for which Amanah wants Muhyiddin to be accountable.
“We demand for Muhyiddin and his Cabinet to resign immediately and seek forgiveness from the King,” he said. - FMT
