Despite arrests and multiple rounds of police questioning, ad-hoc youth coalition Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) is going ahead with their #Lawan protest tomorrow.
They said their goal remains the same - to call for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet to resign.
"We are facing the most failed government in our country's history.
"Such a government will only understand the language of #Lawan (fight) and street demonstrations," SSR said in a statement today.
Cognisant of the current Covid-19 situation, the organisers have been well prepared with SOPs and guidelines for before, during and after the protest to minimise the risk of infection.
Among others, those with Covid-19 symptoms, or who live with high-risk dependents such as children and the elderly are discouraged from attending the protest.
The organisers are also encouraging participants to take their body temperatures and optionally, to do Covid-19 tests before the protest.
According to Undi18 co-founder Qyira Yusri, SSR has already received over 200 self-test kits, as well as sanitisers and N95 face masks for the protest and are welcoming more.
All guidelines for the protest can be found in SSR's protest kit.
In their statement today, SSR said any police intimidation or provocation tomorrow would result in failure to comply with social distancing measures.
"We urge the police to prioritise the people's safety over certain quarters.
"This protest can go smoothly if there is no intimidation or provocation from police.
"Provocation from police during this peaceful protest will only result in the inability to follow social distancing SOPs," they said.
In the event there are any arrests tomorrow, free legal aid is also being provided.
The protest aims to march to Dataran Merdeka at 11am tomorrow.
The assembly point is at the intersection in front of Menara DBKL between Dataran Merdeka and the Masjid Jamek LRT. - Mkini
