PETALING JAYA: Former federal minister Salleh Said Keruak has urged Putrajaya to focus its attention on vaccinating Sabahans so that they can achieve herd immunity by October.
The former communications and multimedia minister said Sabah had been left behind for too long with the lowest vaccination rate in Malaysia.
He said the total number of vaccine recipients stood at 990,681 (35.9%), with those who have received their first dose numbering 475,084 (12.2%).
“The government must quadruple its efforts and energy to speed up the vaccination rate,” Salleh, who is also a former Sabah chief minister, said in a Facebook post, adding that at least 50,000 doses should be administered a day.
“Adopt the various methods and strategies that have been successful. Time to sacrifice and save Sabah,” he said.
Yesterday, the health ministry reported 10,972 new Covid-19 cases and 129 deaths in the past 24 hours, with Sabah recording 651 new infections and two additional deaths. - FMT
