Gerakan nudges MCA, MIC to quit BN and join PN

 

Gerakan has nudged MCA and MIC to quit BN and join the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition instead.

Gerakan secretary-general Mak Kah Keong (above) claimed MCA and MIC were often mistreated in BN.

"MCA and MIC are two parties that are often neglected and sidelined in any decisions made in BN.

"Before they became part of the PN government, MCA and MIC were like two animals sinking in the darkness. So it would be appropriate that they quit BN," he said in a statement.

Gerakan was also formerly part of the BN coalition but later joined PN.

Mak said this in response to MCA and MIC's move to back Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who leads the PN coalition.

PN is in alliance with BN and PBS, which together form the federal government.

Mak also suggested that Umno may take MCA and MIC's traditional seats in the next general election.

He said the parties should close ranks to focus on the Covid-19 pandemic, instead of indulging in political manoeuvrings.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had on July 8 announced that his party was retracting support for Muhyiddin as the prime minister.

However, a majority of the 38 Umno MPs have rebelled against him.

Muhyiddin has an estimated four-seat majority in Parliament, which means Zahid only needs a handful of MPs to obstruct Muhyiddin's legislative agenda. - Mkini
