The MACC is investigating allegations that some quarters are attempting to bribe doctors to falsify their Covid-19 vaccination records.
Its chief commissioner Azam Baki said the MACC views such allegations seriously as they not only involve bribery but also tarnish the reputation of the medical profession if true.
“So far, the MACC has yet to receive any reports on the issue, but will investigate and gather intelligence at locations where such misconduct is suspected,” he said in a statement today.
He urged members of the public with information on such attempts to contact the MACC either through its hotline 1-800-88-6000 or through its website.
The statement came after the Federation of Private Medical Practitioners Associations Malaysia revealed that it had been receiving complaints from members that they were being offered up to RM1,000 to falsify people’s Covid-19 vaccination status.
Such attempts not only came from people who are against vaccination but also those who urgently needed to travel.
Proof of Covid-19 vaccination is becoming more important all around the world including in Malaysia, where fully vaccinated individuals enjoy more freedoms from Covid-19 restrictions.
The Malaysian Medical Association had expressed concern over the attempted bribery yesterday and has urged the police and the MACC to look into the matter. - Mkini
