People deserve truth - Pahang MB rebuts complaint that king and govt airing dirty linen

Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail has rebutted a complaint by MIC president S Vigneswaran that the king and the Perikatan Nasional government are airing dirty linen in public.

This was amid a brewing constitutional crisis that the government and Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who is also the Pahang sultan, clashed over how to revoke or annul the emergency ordinances.

Wan Rosdy (above), who is also an Umno supreme council member, said people deserved to know the truth.

"With regard to Vigneswaran on 'why is dirty linen being washed in public' in reference to the Yang di-Perutan Agong and the federal government: That is not the root of the issue.

"The main thing is that the people should be given awareness and they also have a right to know the truth without concealing what is being discussed," he said in a statement yesterday.

Wan Rosdy was responding to a commentary by Vignewaran who defended the government's decision to revoke the emergency ordinances without going through Parliament.

The ruler had wanted the annulment of the emergency ordinances to be debated in Parliament.

Vigneswaran had argued that the ruler was constitutionally required to accept the government's revocation.

Wan Rosdy claimed that there had been many "manipulative" commentaries about the crisis, which he said included the one by Vigneswaran.

The menteri besar said while Article 40(1) of the Federal Constitution does require the ruler to act on the advice of the government, he argued that it was not absolute.

He defended the ruler, stating that it was his duty to see that the annulment of the emergency ordinances goes through due process. - Mkini
