PKR leader slams ‘arrogant’ Zuraida over comments on King

Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak says a police report should be lodged against Zuraida Kamaruddin’s comments against the King on a TV talk show last night.

PETALING JAYA: A PKR leader has slammed Zuraida Kamaruddin over her arrogance for saying that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong should have sought Putrajaya’s explanation on the decision by the Cabinet to revoke the emergency ordinances (EOs) before issuing any statement on the matter.

Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said the housing and local government minister had shown contempt against the King’s call to table and debate the EOs in the Dewan Rakyat.

“A report should be lodged against her and she should be probed if she had crossed the line in her statement,” the Perak PKR chief said in a statement this evening.

Zuraida had on a talk show aired on Astro Awani last night said it was improper for the King to have issued the statement in response to the decision to revoke the EOs, according to Malaysiakini.

She allegedly said that with Malaysia having a constitutional monarchy, the King must obtain the advice of the Cabinet and the prime minister “in anything (that the monarch) wants to do”.

“I am a bit upset. Anything that they are not clear (with), they should always call the Prime Minister’s Office. (Moreover,) the prime minister (is granted an audience by the Agong) once a week before the Cabinet meeting,” the portal quoted Zuraida as saying.

Last Thursday, Istana Negara issued a statement saying that Putrajaya did not get the King’s consent to revoke the EOs, despite law minister Takiyuddin Hassan having announced in the Dewan Rakyat a few days earlier that the revocation was already in effect since July 21.

Comptroller of the Royal Household Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the Federal Constitution clearly gave the authority for the enactment and revocation of ordinances to the King.

In response, the Prime Minister’s Office defended the government’s actions, insisting it was done in accordance with the law. It also said that Takiyuddin and Attorney-General Idrus Harun explained the government’s stand during a virtual meeting with the King. - FMT
