KUCHING: The districts in Sarawak’s southern zone, which includes Kuching, will join the rest of Sarawak in Phase 3 of the national recovery plan on Oct 1.
The districts are: Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan, Serian and Tebedu.
The state disaster management committee said tourism, gaming outlets and recreational activities would be allowed to reopen. They include spas, wellness, reflexology and beauty centres; cyber cafes; toy stores; snooker and billiard centres; shrimp fishing; gymnasiums, Zumba studios, yoga and related activities, and swimming pools.
“Drivers and workers of the transport sector responsible for transporting goods and providing essential services are required to undergo the RTK-Antigen or saliva test screening every seven days in addition to obtaining police permits if they have to make inter-district work trips,” the committee said.
Sarawak was allowed to transition into Phase 3 from Aug 3, however, the committee decided to postpone the implementation because of a spike in Covid-19 cases at that time.
The whole of Sarawak will be in Phase 3 on Oct 1 with the transition of the southern zone, it added.
Sarawak recorded 2,723 new cases today, with 12 patients suffering from lung infections and needing respiratory aid, while 2,711 cases were asymptomatic and mild.
A total of 19 deaths were reported today: three deaths occurred between Sept 7-23, four deaths on Sept 24, 11 deaths on Sept 25 and one on Sept 26.
Two new clusters were detected in Limbang, namely the Tembok Limbang cluster, involving inmates at the Limbang Central Prison, with 14 people tested positive, and the Melaban cluster involving residents of a longhouse where 37 people were confirmed positive. - FMT
