PJD Link concessionaire still preparing paperwork

PARLIAMENT | The concessionaire for the Petaling Jaya-Damansara Link highway (PJD Link) has not begun physical work and was now preparing the paperwork to fulfil the conditions of its contract.

The Dewan Rakyat was told that among the papers necessary were the environmental impact assessment (EIA), traffic impact assessment (TIA) and social impact assessment.

This was revealed by Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi in a written reply to Lee CHean Chung (Harapan-Petaling Jaya), who sought an update on the project and details of the concession agreement.

Nanta Linggi (above) said the concession agreement - signed in April 2022 - was a classified document and could only be made public if both parties agree.

He explained that the highway was proposed as an alternative to the existing Damansara- Puchong expressway, which was already at capacity.

Shortcomings

PJD Link is the rebranded version of the Kinrara–Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project which began life in 2010.

It is a dual-lane tolled elevated expressway, 34.3km in length, connecting the NKVE toll plaza along the Sprint Highway to the Bukit Jalil Highway Interchange.

Kidex opponents argue that the project will cut through existing neighbourhoods. It was eventually scraped by menteri besar Azmin Ali in 2015.

The project resurfaced in 2020 as PJD Link. Last July, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the developers have rectified all of Kidex's shortcomings and they will take into account further public feedback on the new PJD Link.
