My Comments : The fuel subsidy is a proportion (percentage) of the petrol price. The higher the fuel price, the higher the amount of money spent by the government on the fuel subsidy.
Hence the lower the petrol price, the less the amount of cash needed to pay for the fuel subsidy.
The Minister does not seem to understand simple basics like this.
If the Minister still cannot understand please look at this oil prices chart between July 2022 and April 2023. You can see oil prices have crashed. From US$125 per barrel in July 2022 down to less than US$75 a barrel in April 2023.
So will the gomen have incurred higher subsidies in July 2022 or in April 2023? The answer is higher subsidies were paid in July 2022. The oil prices were much higher in July 2022. The higher the oil price the higher the subsidy incurred by the gomen.
Can someone please inform the Minister.
About the same Minister's comments on renewable energies - it is just too stupid for me to comment. I have other things to do.
