KUALA LUMPUR: Police are still investigating the death of a man who purportedly died in a traffic accident in November, amid questions raised by his family members.

R Yogendran, 29, reportedly died on Nov 24 after a road accident on Nov 22 in Cameron Highlands. According to his death certificate, he died from “sharp force trauma” to the head.

However, it did not state if the injury had occurred during the accident.

When contacted, Cameron Highlands police chief Azri Ramli said the investigation is ongoing under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless driving.

He added that the investigation would continue under this provision unless police received evidence warranting a murder probe.

“We are currently conducting an investigation, but at the moment, we have no suspects or witnesses,” he told FMT. “For now, we will stick with the doctor’s report.”

He urged members of the public with information on Yogendran’s death to come forward to assist in the investigation.

At a press conference earlier, Yogendran’s family said they suspected foul play behind his death and urged the cops to take a closer look at the case.

Kalai Vanar, the head of an NGO named Nambikkai Malaysia, claimed that murder was a possibility since the doctor’s report did not state that Yogendran’s injury was caused by the accident.

He said the father of the deceased filed a police report on Jan 3 regarding the family’s suspicions surrounding Yogendran’s death. - FMT
