Navy personnel summoned by MACC over 'procurement cartel'

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) today confirmed some of its members were summoned by the MACC for questioning over a ‘procurement cartel’ over construction work at one of its base camps, involving more than RM9 million.

RMN Commander Abdul Rahman Ayob said the commission also took some documents to facilitate its investigation, which is understood to involve a project that was carried out last year.

“The RMN has extended its full cooperation in the investigation. Let them (MACC) continue with their job and we will wait for the results of the investigation.

“RMN will not compromise with any of its members involved in wrongdoings and they should be aware of the actions they will face if they do something wrong,” he said.

Abdul Rahman was speaking to reporters after attending the Naming and Commissioning of its patrol craft, KD Sri Sabah and KD Sri Sarawak, at the Tanjung Gelang RMN Base jetty in Kuantan today.

When asked whether RMN will conduct an internal investigation into the matter, he said he would wait for the report from MACC before deciding on the matter.

Yesterday, three men believed to be the masterminds of the ‘procurement cartel’ were arrested by the Johor MACC at the agency’s office at about 6pm.

It is understood the arrests were made on charges of false claims and being masterminds of the ‘procurement cartel’ involving 13 supplier companies managing construction works at the camp.
