KUALA LUMPUR: PKR has filed 50 police reports against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad following his controversial claim that Indians are not loyal to the country.
Kuala Selangor PKR chief Thiban Subbramaniam said more reports will be filed, with the party’s youth wing, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), doing so today at the Travers police station here.
“I am confident that the police will investigate Mahathir soon,” he told reporters here.
In an interview with a Tamil news channel based in Chennai, India, Mahathir said the Indian community was not “completely loyal to Malaysia”.
He claimed that Malaysian Indians wanted to identify themselves with their country of origin instead of fully assimilating and “becoming Malay”.
He drew brickbats from various quarters for his remarks including political leaders, past and present. The Hulu Langat PAS non-Muslim wing also lodged a police report.
Thiban added that Mahathir’s recent comments in the interview were an effort to divert the public’s attention away from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) investigation of his son, Mirzan.
Earlier today, the MACC confirmed it had summoned Mirzan to its headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday, where he was given 30 days to declare his assets. - FMT
