JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor customs department busted a major drug trafficking syndicate by seizing 51kg of cocaine worth RM10.3 million.
The drug was found hidden inside the air-conditioning compressor of a container during inspection at the customs inspection bay in Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Iskandar Puteri, here.
Johor customs director Aminul Izmeer Sohaimi said the inspection last week was carried out by a team of officers following information received from the department’s intelligence division.
Aminul said the contents in the container, believed to be from China and headed to Sarawak, were declared as 2,900 packets of onions.
However, a thorough inspection revealed 50 plastic packages containing white powder hidden in the air-conditioning compressor of the container. - FMT
