Malay netizens rally behind Chinese OKU Grab driver in ‘VVIP bodyguard’ assault case; slam Home Ministry for inaction

IT is so touching to see that justice is still colour blind in Malaysia with Malay netizens championing calls for justice for deaf-mute Grab driver Ong Ing Keong almost three months into his alleged assault by the police escort of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ).

This came about after the 46-year-old Ong who was taken aback with the snail-pace investigation process into his case which occurred on May 28 exposed the dashcam footage of the incident whereby an unprovoked punch was thrown on his right cheek by a member of the so-called ‘VVIP’s bodyguards’.

At a media conference at the Lawyers for Liberty’s (LFL) office in Petaling Jaya yesterday (Aug 14), a teared-up Ong through his lawyer N. Surendran expressed frustration over inaction by the relevant authorities’ given that two-and-a-half months have lapsed since the incident took place.

“I don’t know why (it took so long for the police to complete investigation) as the evidence is clear. No one has been brought to justice,” lamented Surendran who is also LFL’s adviser. “He works six days a week from 6.30am to 7pm; he didn’t deserve what happened to him.”

The news saw netizens flooding social media platforms to rally behind Ong. “Justice for Mr. Ong Police please complete the investigation. Nobody is above the law,” penned social media influencer JOKER🔺(@tjerealjoker) on the X platform.

“The bodyguard has already landed a sucker punch. How can it be so difficult to settle the matter with an apology?”

There were a few noteworthy reactions especially with one netizen wondering “why is DAP so silent” from this post by #UpdateInfo🇲🇾🌍(@update11111) which has since fetched 922,000 views, 12,000 re-tweets and 11,000 likes at the time of writing.

Fashionista and Mercedes fan Dr MasIinda Si Derhaka 🇲🇾 (@DrMasIindaSis) expressed her anger at the cowardice action of the said royalty entourage but was glad that his action was caught on camera.

Last but not least, former Pejuang Youth chief Dr Abu Hafiz Salleh Hudin prayed that God would grant justice to the victims “and may God curse the perpetrators and all those who intentionally protect the perpetrators”.
