PETALING JAYA
Sabah Barisan Nasional has pledged to lift eight of the state’s poorest districts out of poverty if the coalition wins power at the state assembly elections next year.

State BN leader Bung Moktar Radin accused the current government of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah of being among the worst in the state’s history, for its alleged failure to fulfill several major election vows, including the creation of hundreds of thousands of job opportunities.

He said Sabah remained among the poorest states in the country while its unemployment rate was still the highest among all. “If it’s true that so many job opportunities have been created, then why is the poverty rate in Sabah still so high?,” he said in a statement.

He said BN would seek to increase the competitiveness of Sabahans, lift the eight poorest districts out of poverty and provide loans for young people to start businesses.

Bung, a former deputy chief minister, said an international port would be built in Kudat and the existing airport improved.

The current state government led by chief minister Hajiji Noor comprises GRS, Pakatan Harapan and several Umno assemblymen who refused to follow the party’s withdrawal of support for Hajiji.

Sabah Umno, led by Bung, and Warisan currently sit in the opposition in the state assembly. However, GRS and BN are courting PH for an electoral alliance for the state elections, which must be held by next December. - FMT
