Ahead of PAS-Umno reunion, Razman reveals goal to form govt before GE16

PAS is claiming that its planned rally to show solidarity with former Umno president Najib Abdul Razak next week is meant to uphold the law.

However, a PAS leader revealed in a recent speech that the Islamist party still has ambitions to form a government before the next general election.

"(TikTokers) continue your effort to inform the people, the priority being our task to take over the government before the 16th general election.

"We give the mandate and trust to the leaders we have today, we give them trust, what they want to do, how they want to do it, what to add and so on.

"If it's possible to do it before GE16, we pray, because if we wait for GE16, the harm is great," Perak PAS chief Razman Zakaria told a PAS-organised ceramah on Dec 22 themed "Selamatkan Malaysia" (Save Malaysia).

The talk was six days before PAS issued an internal memo urging members to turn up at a rally on Jan 6 to show solidarity with Najib, who will be attending a Court of Appeal hearing on his house arrest bid.

The rally will be the first time since 2022 that PAS and Umno - once allies under the Muafakat Nasional banner - will be teaming up.

Despite the upcoming collaboration, Razman (above) still took a shot at Umno, alleging that the coalition government component party can't fight for Islam or Malays by teaming up with DAP.

‘PAS’ power lust disappointing’

In a statement today, Perak Amanah Youth chief Khairol Najib Hashim said Razman's remarks were not surprising but disappointing.

"It is against the decree of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar who forbade any attempts to topple the government," he said.

Khairol added that PAS' lust for power also disrespected democratic processes.

"The people must realise that efforts such as this hurt political stability and the economy."

Khairol accused Perikatan Nasional, which PAS is part of, of repeatedly misleading the public with false predictions about the fall of the Madani government.

“All these claims have proven to be lies. Razman’s admission that PAS leaders are mandated to take over the government before GE16, citing potential harm in waiting for elections, exposes their dirty political agenda,” he said.

‘Razman should repent’

Separately, DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong in a statement condemned Razman and PAS’ ambition as an “irresponsible” attempt to destroy democracy.

“As a politician who has repeatedly lost defamation lawsuits and only apologised and retracted statements after receiving legal letters, Razman should repent and learn from these cases by refraining from creating chaos and disorder in the country’s politics,” he said.

Woo, a Perak state exco, also reminded Razman of how the PAS leader had last year led a press conference to dispel rumours of alleged attempts to bring down the Perak government and pave the way for a state election.

“Does this mean that Razman is trying to spread lies among the attendees of the (Dec 22) ceramah by making false promises to change the government before GE16?

“Or does it indicate that he himself does not agree with what he said during the press conference held at the Perak state secretariat in 2023?” said Woo. - Mkini
