PETALING JAYA
Seven staff members of the Klang district and land office were among 17 civil servants arrested recently over illegal land transfer activities, Selangor land and mines director Yusri Zakariah confirmed today.

Speaking to reporters in Shah Alam, he said his office had given its full cooperation to the police in their investigation.

This comes after Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department director Ramli Yoosuf said on Jan 10 that 17 people, including seven civil servants from a land and mines office in Selangor, had been arrested to assist in investigations into illegal land transfer activities.

Ramli had said that seven cases were under investigation, involving over 9.4ha of land, with losses totalling RM7.1 million.

Bernama reported Yusri as saying that an internal investigation showed that the illegal activities could have occurred during the transition to the new e-Tanah system.

Yusri urged landowners to frequently check their land titles, make sure their names were on the grants and ensure that their quit rent payments were made on time. - FMT
