Ban on heavy vehicles during CNY

Free Malaysia Today
The transport ministry said the main objective of the ban is to prevent traffic congestion and reduce the risk of road accidents involving heavy vehicles.

PETALING JAYA
Heavy vehicles transporting goods will be banned from roads during the Chinese New Year festive season.

The transport ministry said the ban, which is implemented annually during festive seasons, will be enforced for four days – on Jan 27 and 28 and Feb 1 and 2.

It said the ban takes into account the significant increase in traffic as a result of people returning to their hometowns or heading to holiday destinations during the long break.

“The main objective of the ban is to prevent traffic congestion and reduce the risk of road accidents involving heavy vehicles,” it said in a statement.

The ministry also said the National Speed Limit Reduction Order will be in effect from Jan 28 to Feb 2 as part of the police’s Op Selamat safety operation.

To ensure compliance with the initiative, the road transport department (JPJ) will increase its enforcement throughout the  Chinese New Year season as well as in integrated operations with other enforcement agencies. - FMT
