Bersatu is aiming to contest at least 18 seats in the upcoming Sabah polls expected to be held before October.
Party deputy president Hamzah Zainudin was quoted by The Borneo Post as saying that they will campaign under the slogan “Kasi Bagus Sabah” (make Sabah better) and is open to collaborating with others to form a government.
Hamzah said Bersatu is confident in its chances in the polls, noting the party won 11 out of 18 contested seats in the last 2020 state election.
“We managed to secure 11 state seats even with the limited time we had to prepare. After working on the ground for the past five years, we are more prepared this time.
“We are open to cooperating with any party sharing our vision and leadership values. Our goal is to make ‘Kasi Bagus Sabah’ a reality instead of just a slogan,” he reportedly told party members at a Bersatu event in Sepanggar yesterday.
Challenging GRS
Hamzah said Bersatu will be looking to challenge Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in the state polls and criticised the state ruling coalition for aligning with PKR, DAP, and Pakatan Harapan.
The former home minister added that Bersatu vice-president Ronald Kiandee had already held informal talks with potential allies in the state.
Bersatu used to be part of GRS - which includes SAPP, Star, Usno, and Parti Bersatu Sabah - but split from the coalition after all 11 of its assemblypersons including Chief Minister Hajiji Noor defected from the party in December 2022.

This coincided with Anwar Ibrahim becoming the 10th prime minister in November 2022. Lawmakers who defected from the party had since thrown their support behind Anwar or his allies.
The seats formerly held by Bersatu in Sabah were Bandau, Pintasan, Sulaman, Kawang, Membakut, Klias, Kuala Penyu, Karanaan, Nabawan, Labuk, and Apas. - Mkini
