Customs promises strict action after video of alleged extortion by officers

A viral video showed several people, allegedly customs officers, involved in a raid on a factory in Kapar, Klang.

PUTRAJAYA
The customs department said today it will not protect any of its officers if they are involved in an alleged extortion case at a factory in Selangor following the circulation of a video of a raid on the factory.

The department said it would fully cooperate with the police to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation into the case.

“Any action against the personnel involved can only be determined based on the outcome of the police investigation,” the statement read.

The department said it takes seriously every allegation of misconduct or integrity violation, including corruption involving its personnel.

A widely-circulated video showed several people, allegedly customs officers, involved in a raid on a factory in Kapar, Klang. It also showed them allegedly extorting RM150,000 in cash.

The video also showed a copy of the police report and CCTV footage, believed to be related to the incident. - FMT
