PETALING JAYA
More than 2,500 people have been evacuated in Johor as flooding worsened in the state through the day.

The number of victims nearly trebled from 897 this morning to 2,565 this evening. They are housed at 34 relief centres in the Johor Bahru, Kluang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Pontian districts.

Bernama reported the water level of five rivers – Sungai Kahang, Sungai Siam, Sungai Siku, Sungai Skudai and Parit Keliling – have exceeded the danger level.

Four roads in Kota Tinggi have been closed to all vehicles: Jalan Lok Heng-Mawai-Sungai Mas, Jalan Mawai Lama (Rumah Burung), Jalan Johor Bahru-Endau, and Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang.

In Perak, the number of flood evacuees rose slightly from 27 this morning to 51. The victims in Manjung are all being sheltered in one relief centre.

The meteorological department has forecast thunderstorms tonight in Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak, Bagan Datuk, Manjung, Kinta, Kuala Kangsar and Kampar. - FMT
