Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has scheduled a visit to the Fo Guan Shan Dong Zen Temple - a Buddhist temple renowned for its scenic beauty, architecture and cultural significance - for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.
Selangor exco Ng Sze Han in a statement confirmed the visit will be in conjunction with the state government’s Chinese New Year open house at the temple on Feb 8, from 5.30pm to 11pm.
“The Selangor sultan has consented to attend the event, together with his consort.
“His Highness has also agreed to participate in the ‘yee sang’ ceremony together with other invited dignitaries,” said Ng.
He added that organisers are expecting up to 30,000 guests to enjoy a line-up of cultural and modern performances.
Sultan Sharafuddin regularly attended the state government’s Chinese New Year celebrations in the past, participating in festive activities such as "lou sang" and the eye-dotting ceremony for lion dances.
In October 2023, Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin visited Dong Zen Temple and participated in a Chinese tea-making activity.
The temple in Jenjarom is a renowned Buddhist cultural centre known for its gardens, traditional architecture, and peaceful ambience. It is a popular destination during the Chinese New Year season, attracting visitors for its annual Lantern and Floral Festival.
